Robert “Bo” Newsom, 87, of Columbus, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2017, at Keepsake Village of Columbus.

Bo was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Columbus, the son of Roland and Margie McKnight Newsom. He married Virginia “Ginny” Arthur May 2, 1953. Bo graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1947. He attended DePauw University for three years and graduated from Indiana University. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. Bo served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Bo was vice-president of Newsom Trucking and then president of Courier-Newsom when Courier Express of Logansport and Newsom Trucking merged.

He had several memberships and honors which included Eagle Scouts, U.S. Coast Guard Power Squadron, Rotary International and the Seagoing Cowboys. He was president of the Indiana Motor Trucking Association and served as the Indiana representative to the Board of Governors of the American Trucking Association

The funeral will be at noon Friday, March 31, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Steve Fisher officiating. Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ginny; son, Alan Newsom of Columbus; son-in-law, Rick Ellison of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Kellie (Josh) Yearout of Springfield, Ohio and Sarah Riggs of New Castle; and one great-grandchild, Liam.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie Ellison in 2012; and a brother, Hugh M. Newsom in 2015.
