North Vernon water users should check their water supply before doing laundry to avoid iron stains to clothing caused by the flushing of the water distribution system.
Bryan Lane, North Vernon Utilities water superintendent, said the supervised flushing will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning Monday and ending May 31.
The iron residues in the water will not normally harm drinking or bathing water, but iron residue may stain clothing. It is recommended that if discoloration in a home’s water supply is apparent, run an empty wash cycle before putting clothing in a washing machine, Lane said.
