Helen Rhoades

Columbus

Helen McCullough Rhoades was born in Columbus, Indiana on February 25, 1922. Mrs. Rhoades passed away peacefully on March 26, 2017.

She married James N. Rhoades on July 19, 1944, while he was home on leave from his posting in the Aleutian Islands during WWII.

They were both graduates of Columbus High School, class of 1939. James preceded her on July 10, 2010. She was a proud graduate of the St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1944. Helen was an RN at Columbus Regional Hospital for many years.

The joys of her life were her three sons. Jeffrey Rhoades (Cynthia) was the oldest and survives her. Her younger sons, Mark H. Rhoades and Brent A. Rhoades, preceded her. Three grandchildren, Jennifer Rhoades Clemens (Tod), Evan Jeffrey Rhoades (Rose) and Claire McCullough Rhoades, along with her two great-grandchildren, Carter and Cami Clemens, kept her young at heart.

Helen enjoyed traveling, family vacations, golf, bridge and needlework. Socially, she was active in TriKappa, The Country Club (a rural literary group), DAR, Antique Club and Harrison Lake Country Club, which she and James were members of for over 50 years. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Her brother, Henry G. McCullough, M.D., and her parents, Arthur B. McCullough and Charity H. McCullough, preceded her in death.

The family wishes to thank Keepsake Village for their compassionate care over these last six years as Alzheimer’s disease made her life more and more of a challenge.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family will accept online condolences at myers-reed.com.

Myers-Reed Chapel is serving the Rhoades family.
