Sheriff’s youth academy accepting applications

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s 2017 Youth Academy, which is more than half full, continues to take registration for summer programs.

The academy is open to Bartholomew County residents aged 6 to 13. It has been designed by law enforcement professionals to expose younger citizens to role models in public safety and provide them an understanding of the law enforcement experience. Participants will demonstrate the importance of teamwork through various activities and demonstrations.

A two-day academy will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 and 9 for children ages 6 to 9. Activities will include safety courses, DARE and K-9. Cost is $25 per participant.

A four-day academy will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6 and 9 for ages 10 to 13. Activities will include shooting range safety. Cost is $35 per participant.

Scholarships are available for both academies and all participants will attend a June 9 graduation ceremony.
