Jets run-rule Indians

HOPE — Hauser scored six times in the first two innings Monday and went on to post a 12-2, six-inning win against Milan.

Jacob Johnson went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the Jets (2-1). Sean Miller went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs

Cameron Hartog and Parker Eickbush combined on a three-hitter.

Columbus Christian falls

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian gave up five unearned runs in a 5-0 season-opening loss at Indiana Deaf in a game that was shortened to five innings because of darkness.

Connor Graham gave up two unearned runs in four innings, and Logan Roth gave up three unearned runs in the fifth. Evan Reed and Josh Jones had the only two hits for the Crusaders.

Austin topples Panthers

AUSTIN — Austin scored five times in the first two innings and went on to hand Jennings County an 8-1 loss.

Tyler Vogel went 2 for 3 with two doubles for the Panthers (1-2).

Eagles rally past Cougars

OSGOOD — Ben Harlamert hit a game-tying grand-slam with two out and two strikes in the bottom of the seventh, and Jac-Cen-Del went on to hand South Decatur a 10-9 loss.

Nathan Kroger went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in his first varsity start for the Cougars (0-3). Nolan Storm went 2 for 5.

Golden Bears stun Jets

HOPE — Shelbyville handed Class A power Hauser its first loss of the season, a 14-1 setback.

The Golden Bears scored twice in each of the first and second innings. After the Jets got on the board with a run in the third, Shelbyville added six runs in the fourth and four in the seventh.

Lancers rout Franklin

FRANKLIN — Vanessa McManaway went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Maddi Clark threw a one-hitter to lead Edinburgh to a 12-0, five-inning win at Franklin.

Bailey Woodall went 3 for 3 with a triple for the Lancers (1-1). Sidney Beier went 2 for 2, Bri Howard went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Clark had a double and two RBIs.

Trinity tops Orleans

ORLEANS — Trinity Lutheran improved to 4-1 with a 5-1 win at Orleans.

Savannah Harweger had two hits, including a home run, for the Cougars. Jodi Goecker also had two hits, and Taylor Russell had two RBIs.

TRACK AND FIELD

Jet girls win tri meet

CROTHERSVILLE — Grace Hasler won the 100-meter hurdles in 18.0 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 50.9 to lead the Hauser girls to a tri-meet win at Crothersville.

The Jets outscored the host Tigers 54-49, while Trinity Lutheran finished third with 37. Trinity edged the Hauser boys 51-50, with Crothersville taking third with 35.

Brea Metz won the shot put (31 feet, 8½ inches), Mel Hasler took the 200 (30.0) and Maleah Bates captured the 3,200 (16:50) for the Jets. Hauser also won the 4×100 (56.3) and 4×400 (4:47) relays.

Trinity’s Hailley Peters won the high jump (5-2), long jump (14-7) and 100 (14.1). Lexi Schneider took the 400 (1:11.6).

For the Hauser boys, Pete Trotter swept the shot (42-2) and discus (119-10). John Bragg won the high jump (5-6), Joe Sweet took the 300 hurdles (49.6) and the Jets captured the 4×800 relay (11:07).

The Cougars’ AJ Goecker won the long jump (18-0), 1,600 (4:52) and 3,200 (10:34); and Matt McKay took the 110 hurdles (15.7), 100 (11.1) and 200 (24.6). Sam Marksberry captured the 400 (56.0), and Trinity won the 4×400 relay (3:51).

GIRLS Tennis

Cougars edge Eagles

SEYMOUR — Austin won the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles matches, but Trinity Lutheran took the other three to claim a 3-2 season-opening win against Austin.

Abby Schult beat Lily Humphrey 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Sidney Hoene downed Leah Crone 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Cougars. Lauren Fleetwood and Cassidy Burnside topped Kailey Fugate and Clarice Goodin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Trinity’s Courtney Barker fell to Jalen Coomer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Leah Stuckwisch and Lauren Voss lost to Skyler Coomer and Macy Baker 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
