LaPorte driver arrested for OWI after testing three times over legal limit

Columbus police arrested a driver from LaPorte on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he told them he thought he was driving just south of Kokomo.

Sgt. Ben Goodin saw a vehicle attempting to turn around in a driveway in the 600 block of North National Road at 9 p.m. Thursday and stopped the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The driver, Philip L. Keeling, 36, had slurred speech and his eyes were bloodshot, Harris said.

Keeling told police that he thought he was just south of Kokomo when they asked him where he was, Harris said.

After Keeling failed several field sobriety tests, he provided a portable breath sample of .251 percent, more than three times over the .08 percent legal limit, Harris said.
