North downs Mahomet

LOUISVILLE — Columbus North opened play in the Super Prep Tournament with a 5-1 win against Mahomet-Seymour (Illinois) on Friday afternoon.

Jake Petrusky threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 5-0. Parker Maddox went 2 for 4.

North was set to play at undefeated Louisville Trinity, the No. 1-ranked team in Kentucky, late Friday night. The Bull Dogs will play at South Oldham (Kentucky) at 10 a.m. today and against Plainfield (Illinois), the No. 1-ranked team in that state, at Providence at 3 p.m. today.

Cougars notch first win

SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur picked up its first win of the season, a 10-9, eight-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference decision at Southwestern (Shelby).

Kyle Johannigman knocked in winning pitcher Oakley Billingsley with the winning run in the top of the eighth.

Billingsley went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Cougars (1-3, 1-0). Brogan Howard went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Johannigman went 2 for 4 and Luke Eden went 2 for 5 went three RBIs.

Trinity topples Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Nick Mensendiek had four hits, including a home run, and two RBIs and combined with Jake VonDielingen on a three-hitter to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 20-3 win at Crothersville.

Kendall White added three hits and three RBIs, and  VonDielingen had two hits, including a homer, for the Cougars (2-2). Jacob Crockett had two hits and two RBIs. Jake Moore and Trent Shoemaker also had two hits, and Ross Kruse had a double and two RBIs.

Lancers blank Mohawks

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh picked up its first win of the season, a 4-1 decision against a short-handed Waldron team.

Allie Schooler beat Halley Huber 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Molly Bowker fell to Lilly Sizemore 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (1-1). The Mohawks forfeited the other three positions.
