Church offering ‘Summers Rock’ program for elementary children

First Christian Church in North Vernon will offer a summer program, “Summers Rock,” for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The program will be available daily from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 22 through Aug. 7.

“Summers Rock” has grown every year for four years, said Angee Leeds, the church’s youth director.

“This is not a program where the kids just lay around and do nothing,” Leeds said. “This will be a very active program, with children taking field trips to local parks, watching movies, making crafts and playing games, all while providing the opportunity for social interaction with other elementary-aged children.”

The cost is $80 per child per week, which includes lunches and on-site snacks every day.

Leeds said that if parents want to send their children fewer days per week that is possible, and fees can be adjusted, but arrangements must be made in advance because the program assigns one paid staff member for every 10 children.

Openings in the program and assignments will be made on a first-come first-served basis.

Children must be 5 years old by April 1 and registrations must be submitted by May 19 for children to be accepted for the summer program.

Registration forms are available at the church office, 108 E. Walnut St., North Vernon, or at the church’s child care ministry or after-school care program.
