Donald D. “Don” Denny, 88, of Columbus, died 11:40 a.m. Friday morning, April 7, 2017, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Born in Jackson County on March 1, 1929, Don was the son of Edward D. and Helen L. Stilwell Denny. He married Betty Hess on November 14, 1951, in Peru. Don was a 1947 graduate of Columbus High School and served with the U.S. Air Force. Don was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he participated in the men’s Bible study group and served as a Deacon. Don retired from Cummins Engine Company as a machinist and was a member of the Cummins Diesel Workers Union. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping and bowling.

Don is survived by his children, Douglas (Jacque) Denny, Grammer and Debra (Michael) Richey, Columbus; and grandchildren, Samantha (fiancé, Casey Miller) Denny, Hope, Brandon (significant other, Candra Tobias) Timbrook, Hope and Michael L. Richey II, Columbus. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Joseph C. Denny.

There will be a funeral for Don at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Donald Humphry officiating. Burial with graveside rites by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
