Laura Cox

Columbus

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.'” Laura Noel (Heaton) Cox, who left us April 12, 2017, to be with the Lord, lived her life to this verse.

She was born to the proud parents of Albert Jack and Judith Ann Heaton on July 19, 1965, who currently still reside on Ridgeway Avenue in Columbus. Laura entered her educational journey at Parkside Elementary School, then on to Columbus Northside Middle School and eventually received her high school diploma at Columbus North High School with her peers and friends of the Class of 1983.

Having developed an early love of children, she pursued a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Hanover College where in she received her state of Indiana teaching license. Family, love and support came from her brother, Brian (wife, Wendy) Heaton and sister, Lisa (husband, Dr. Steve) Newton, both current residents of Columbus.

Laura had a fulfilling career within the Columbus educational system, finishing the last 13 years at First Christian Church Preschool as co-director. She was a life-long and highly respected member of First Christian Church, giving her spare time to the youth and children’s department as well as various other ministries within the church.

Laura found and married her soul mate, Brian Cox of Alexandria, Indiana, on August 29, 1992. Soon after, Laura and Brian were blessed with two of the most beautiful and wonderful children, Morgan Victoria Cox, born July 24, 1998, and Bryson Elijah Cox, born December 11, 1999. Being a devoted wife and a nurturing mother were her greatest accomplishments in this life.

Her touch and impact on the community of Columbus will be greatly missed, but her legacy lives on in the lives of not only her children, but those of the children’s lives that she has touched throughout her life.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with Tyler Tolbert officiating.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in memory of Laura be given to the First Christian Church Preschool.
