Wilma Weinke Newton, age 84, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and woman of faith was called to heaven to be reunited with Dick, the love of her life for 60 years, on April 9, 2017. Surviving are sons, Richard (Barbara); Steven (Lisa) of Columbus; daughter, Laura (Mark) O’Shaughnessy of Fort Wayne; nine loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and sister, Marilyn (Jim) Hennegan. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Carol (Otto) Reifeis.

Born on October 3, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Wilma was the middle daughter of Harry and Ethel Williams Weinke. She was a proud graduate of Southport High School. She attended Hanover College and graduated from Butler University with a degree in Business.

Wilma was very involved with her family and the Columbus community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO, the Magazine Club, Phi Mu and Tri Kappa. She enjoyed being at the dental office with Dick where their patients became more like family. Wilma was an avid gardener and is well known for the beautiful hanging baskets that graced her husband’s dental office porch each spring and summer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Preschool, First Presbyterian Preschool Heritage Fund Scholarship, First Presbyterian Church.
