Robert L. Hart Sr., 83, of Greenwood, passed away on April 12, 2017, at home with his loving family by his side.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Southport Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, with a memorial service immediately following. Mr. Hart will be entombed at Washington Park East Cemetery. Mr. Hart was born to Hubert H. and Flora Hart (Featherston) on Jan.30, 1934, in Indianapolis.

Mr. Hart served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his commitment to his country, he started a career in the publishing industry as a printer and service technician. Mr. Hart was always intrigued by technology and how it could make life safer and better. He held several patents, with his most notable, The Opto-Interlock System, utilizing fiber optics in the mid-70s envisioning what the world would look like today. He retired as a Superintendent of Building and Grounds for IPS.

Mr. Hart is survived by his wife of sixty years, Mary Lou Hart (Stapert); daughter, Julie Richard (Morris); sons, Robert L. Hart, Jr. and Mark A. Hart (Laura); granddaughters, Chloe Lechuga (Hart), Abby Hart and Katie Hart; grandsons, Nick Richard, Dustin Richard, Christopher Merry and Kyle Hart; great-granddaughters, Amber Richard, Alicia Lechuga and Lili Lechuga; and great-great-granddaughter, Ellie Webb.
