North’s streak snapped

INDIANAPOLIS — Fifth-ranked North Central snapped co-No. 11 Columbus North’s 10-match winning streak Wednesday with a 4-1.

Yijaing Zhao picked up the win for the Bull Dogs (10-2), beating Jane Wynne 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

North’s Aubrey Smith fell to Emily Desai 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Madelyn Sanders lost to Autumn Clark 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Shweta Srinivasan and Servane Cloteaux fell to Camille Urbanski and Susan Bierderstedt 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Eva Chevalier and Ali Bergman lost to Meg Wynne and Maci Haywood 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Warriors sweep Lancers

WHITELAND — Whiteland won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Edinburgh in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Allie Schooler fell to Katie Burkman 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Molly Bowker lost to Ali Harris 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Heather Jones fell to Brooke Coy 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers.

Edinburgh’s Hannah Gosman and Sydney Schlotter lost to Sarah Knight and McKayla Russell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Haley Jones and Sophia Parmer fell to Mya Piccione and Mackenzie Hunter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers blank Chargers

EDINBURGH — Sidney Beier went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and five RBIs to lead Edinburgh to a 6-0 Mid-Indiana Conference win against North Decatur.

Grace Joiner and Taylor Littiken each went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (5-3, 3-2). Maddi Clark threw a five-hitter and went 2 for 4 with a double, and Bailey Woodall went 2 for 4.

Eagles win on walkoff

NASHVILLE — Maddy Edds smacked a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the seventh to lift Brown County to a 9-7 win against Owen Valley.

Adriana Kritzer went 3 for 3 for the Eagles (9-3). Edds went 2 for 4, and Aubrey Hollander had a homer and three RBIs.

Chargers rout Shawe

GREENSBURG — South Decatur scored 15 times in the first two innings and cruised to a 21-1, five-inning win against Madison Shawe.

Brooke Helms went 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Jennifer Peters went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and four RBIs for the Cougars (2-8). Mackenzie Kopplin threw a three-hitter and went 3 for 4, and Claire Wullenweber went 2 for 4.

Chargers edge Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh led 4-1 after four innings, but North Decatur rallied for a 6-5, eight-inning MHC win.

The Lancers (4-6, 1-4) outhit the Chargers 12-6. Zach Murphy had two doubles, including an RBI-double that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.

South Decatur rolls

MADISON — South Decatur jumped out to an 11-0 lead after four innings and went on to beat Madison Shawe 14-4.

Winning pitcher Luke Eden went 3 for 5 with two doubles, and Devon Martin went 3 for 5 for the Cougars (5-5). Nolan Storm went 2 for 4, and Hunter Seegers went 2 for 5.

Patriots top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County put up double digits in hits and runs, but fell to Owen Valley 19-10.

Noah Ryan went 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the Eagles (3-9). Chris Leslie went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

BOYS GOLF

Trojans top Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur fell to East Central 179-203 at Wyaloosing Creek.

Jake Vannatta led the Cougars with a 47. Jacob Johnson, Nick Bales and Justice Burton all shot 52; Logan Owens added a 54 and Kirby Owens had a 57.

TRACK AND FIELD

Jennings girls win

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County rolled to a quad-meet victory on Tuesday. The Panthers scored 103 points to 54 for Corydon Central, 52 for Silver Creek and 27 for Rock Creek Academy.

Alexis Harsh led the Panthers with wins in the long jump (16 feet), 100 meters (12.9 seconds) and 200 (26.6). Kayla Truesdell took the shot put (39-5 1/4) and discus (99-3).

Other winners for Jennings were Hallie Stearns in the pole vault (7-6), Alana Daeger in the high jump (5-0) and Amy Gasper in the 100 hurdles (17.4).
