East, North track teams set to battle

The Columbus North and Columbus East track teams had a chance to compete against each other April 8 in the North Invitational, and they’ll see each other in the sectional and regional next month.

But tonight, the boys and girls teams will go head-to-head without any other teams in the competition. North will host the meet beginning at 5 p.m.

“It’s always an electric atmosphere anytime we can compete against the kids across town,” North boys and girls coach Lou Sipe said. “A lot of those kids go to elementary school together, and some go to middle school together. So it’s an opportunity for them to compete at the high school level.”

The Bull Dog boys finished second, and the girls were fourth in the North Invitational. East’s boys and girls both were sixth in that meet.

North hasn’t had a meet with its full squad since sweeping Seymour in a dual meet on April 11. Several Bull Dog athletes competed in Saturday’s Midwest Prep Invitational at Marian University.

The Olympians, meanwhile, just had a meet Tuesday at Bloomington North. The Cougars won both the boys and girls contests.

East seniors to sign

Three Columbus East senior baseball players will participate in a signing ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the school’s commons.

Jon Crawford will play at University of Indianapolis. Jonathan Foster is headed to Taylor, and Luke Hostetler will play for Jackson (Michigan) College.

Edinburgh senior commits

Edinburgh senior Bailey Woodall has committed to play softball at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Woodall was batting .600 with four doubles, a triple and seven RBIs for the 6-3 Lancers heading into Wednesday’s game against North Decatur. She also was 3-1 pitching with a .162 ERA.

Athletic contests moved

Columbus East’s softball game scheduled for tonight at Bedford North Lawrence has been rescheduled for Tuesday.

Columbus North’s softball game against Shelbyville, which originally was scheduled for April 13, will now be May 3 at Southside Elementary.

Edinburgh was to have played in the Johnson County golf tournament on Saturday at Hickory Stick, but that has been moved to June 1 at The Legends.

East sets callout meeting

The Columbus East boys soccer program will have a callout meeting for any current eighth- through 11th-grade students who are interested in playing soccer next fall at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 110 (Large Group Lecture Hall) of the school.

The coaching staff will discuss the program and provide information about the upcoming summer schedule.
