Center hosts sessions on bariatric surgery

The Bariatric Center at Columbus Regional Health is sponsoring three free information sessions on obesity and bariatric surgery.

Dr. David J. Lee, bariatric medical director at Southern Indiana Surgery, and Samantha Grider, nurse practitioner, will cover the causes of obesity, trends, quality of life issues, as well as explore misconceptions about bariatric surgery, insurance coverage and more.

A session will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Indiana Surgery, 2325 18th St., Suite 220. Two other sessions will be at 5:30 p.m. May 9 and 5:30 p.m. May 23, also at the surgery center.

To qualify for bariatric surgery, patients must have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or more and have significant weight-related conditions or have a BMI over 40 without weight-related conditions.
