Shoplifting suspect arrested on drug-related charges

Columbus police arrested a local man on drug-related charges after he was accused of trying to take a bottle of liquor from a store.

Columbus police officers were sent to the 700 block of Merchant’s Mile at 1:30 p.m. Saturday about a possible shoplifter in the retail store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officer Ben Quesenbery approached Bradley A. Burton, 39, 1831 Lockerbie Drive, after he concealed merchandise — including a bottle of liquor — in his jacket, Harris said.

During a search, officers found two syringes as well as a small amount of heroin and methamphetamine in his clothing, Harris said.

Burton was arrested on charges of theft, possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a legend drug-injection device, police said.

He was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting $27,500 bond, jail officials said.
