SOFTBALL

Crusaders get first win

Columbus Christian scored seven times in the sixth inning to break open a close game and post its first win of the season, a 17-7, six-inning decision against Traders Point Christian.

Jena Fryback went 3 for 3 with a bases-loaded walkoff double in the sixth. Hannah Stair went 3 for 4 with a double, Grace Isley went 2 for 3 and Emily Warren and Taylor Ingram each went 2 for 4.

Savannah Spurgeon threw a five-hitter to pick up the pitching victory for the Crusaders (1-2).

Tri tops South Decatur

STRAUGHN — South Decatur led 5-3 going to the bottom of the seventh, but Tri scored twice to send it to extra innings and plated one in the 10th to pull out a 6-5 win.

Brooke Helms went 3 for 4 with a double for the Cougars (2-11). Sam Goodfellow 2 for 5 with a double, and Chloe Smith went 2 for 5.

Trinity wins in 14

CAMPBELLSBURG — Trinity Lutheran pushed across a run in the 14th inning to pull out a 6-5 win at West Washington.

Amanda Wright, Vidalis Montanez, Jodi Goecker and Jaryn Holdsclaw all had two hits for the Cougars (8-4). Holdsclaw had two RBIs.

BASEBALL

Stars top Olympians

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, and Columbus East couldn’t recover in a 6-2 defeat.

Jonathan Foster went 3 for 4 for the Olympians (8-4). Julian Greenwell and Harry Crider had RBIs.

Columbus Christian falls

BROWNSBURG — Bethesda Christian jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and went on to post an 8-4 win against Columbus Christian.

Evan Reed went 2 for 3 with a double for the Crusaders (1-5). Connor Graham went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Eagles down Spartans

SHELBYVILLE — Jake Riehl and Grant Suding combined on a one-hitter to lead Brown County to a 12-1, six-inning win at Southwestern (Shelby).

Suding went 3 for 4 with two RBIs at the plate for the Eagles (4-10). Bryce Walker and Noah Ryan each had three RBIs.

Twisters top Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur outhit Oldenburg Academy 10-8, but the Twisters claimed a 7-5 win.

Luke Eden went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Cougars (6-8). Hunter Seegers went 2 for 2, Oakley Billingsley went 2 for 4 with a double and Nolan Storm went 2 for 5.

Warriors topple Trinity

SCOTTSBURG — Trinity Lutheran was held to three hits in an 8-1 loss at Scottsburg.

Ross Kruse, Aaron Bowers and Nick Mensendiek had the hits for the Cougars (5-6).

TRACK AND FIELD

Hauser boys take third

BATESVILLE — Hauser’s boys finished third, and the girls took fourth in a quad meet at Batesville.

Batesville won the boys meet with 135 points to 38 1/2 for North Decatur, 33 for the Jets and 26 for Jac-Cen-Del. Batesville’s girls scored 102 points to 55 for North Decatur, 43 for Jac-Cen-Del and 29 for Hauser.

Grace Hasler had the only two wins for the Jet girls, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 16.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 49.3. For the boys, Joe Hunter won the long jump (18 feet, 3/4-inch), and Pete Trotter took the shot put (42-3 1/2).

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers edge Pirates

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won three matches in straight sets to claim a 3-2 win against Greensburg.

Avis McGovern beat Raegan Rigney 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Rebecca Driver downed Bailey Menkedick 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (5-3). Callie Wilder and Courtney Lykins topped Kirsten Fong and Claudia Westhafer 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Hailey Brown fell to Ellie Acra 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Maddy Hill and Ellie Hearne lost to Elaine Welage and Julia Pacilio 6-2 7-6 (3) at No. 1 doubles.

Braves blank Lancers

TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek dropped only 12 games in the five matches in claiming a 5-0 win against Edinburgh.

Allie Schooler fell to Katie Burkman 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Molly Bowker lostto Ali Harris def. 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Heather Jones fell to Brooke Coy 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers.

Edinburgh’s Hannah Gosman and Sophia Parmer lost to Sara Knight and McKayla Russell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Haley Jones and Katie Roberts fell to Mya Piccione and Mackenzie Hunter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

BOYS GOLF

Cougars set record

EDINBURGH — Trinity Lutheran fired a school-record 159 in winning a tri-match at Timbergate. Host Edinburgh outshot Beech Grove 211-225 for second.

Jonathan Keith won medalist honors with a 38 to lead the Cougars. Jacob Keith carded a 39, Cory Stuckwisch added a 40, Skylar Stahl shot 42, Chad Stuckwisch had a 43 and Drew Royalty finished with a 46.

Bladen Hancock led the Lancers with a 40. Kegan Jones carded a 53, Brayden McManaway added a 57, Gavin Hancock shot 61 and Zach Burton had a 67.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bull Dogs nip Wildcats

INDIANAPOLIS — Sawyer Lewis and Ian Hussey each netted four goals and two assists Monday to lead Columbus North to a 12-11 win at Lawrence North.

Caleb Spencer, Jacob Elliott, Cameron Hoeflich and Dalton Carpenter all added goals for the Bull Dogs (2-6). Sam Ellis had two assists, and Spencer had one. Anthony Valencia posted seven saves.
