State plans chip-and-seal work in Jennings County

JENNINGS COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation will chip-and-seal a 9.5-mile section of State Road 250 between the Jennings-Jackson county line and State Road 3.

The work will begin Tuesday morning on State Road 250 just east of Interstate 65, weather permitting. On Wednesday, work will continue west from State Road 3.

INDOT is asking motorists to drive slowly and with caution on State Road 250 to avoid damage to vehicles from asphalt spray and loose rocks.

The chip-and-seal process coats highway surfaces with liquid asphalt to seal pavement cracks and protect the roadbed from harmful ultraviolet rays. Chips of limestone restore surface friction to optimize car maneuverability and stopping capabilities.
