Teen killed in Sunday accident

NORTH VERNON — A North Vernon teenager died in a two-vehicle accident around 3 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 50 near State Road 750, Indiana State Police said.

Investigators from the state police Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team said a gray 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Michael C. Furlong, 53, Cynthiana, Kentucky, was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 at State Road 750.

Furlong’s vehicle entered State Road 750 into the path of a westbound red 1995 GMC being driven by Caleb M. Fish, 18, North Vernon, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, Indiana State Police spokesman. The vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection and then left the north side of U.S. 50 before stopping.

Fish was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office, Wheeles said. Furlong and a female passenger had non-life threatening injuries in the crash. They both were transported to St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital in North Vernon for treatment of their injuries.

An investigation into the accident is continuing.
