JoAnn M. Chasteen, 78, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Chasteen was born June 28, 1938, in Jackson County, the loving daughter of Martin and Alice Geneva Runge Schafstall. She married Charles A. Chasteen Oct. 20, 1957.

A homemaker, Mrs. Chasteen was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great passion for sewing and would make clothing for her entire family. She also enjoyed knitting, vegetable gardening and tending to her flower garden.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles; her children, Pat (Janet) Chasteen, Bonnie (Bruce) Nolting, Julie (Ross) Phillips and Heather (Steve) Krebs, all of Columbus; grandchildren, George and Megan Chasteen, Albert (Emily) Nolting, Tyler (Polly) Nolting, Rachel (Chad) Fohne, Rebekah Nolting, Lucas and Jacob Phillips, and Adam and Sarah Krebs; great-grandchildren, Karter Nolting, Faith Fohne and Isabella Nolting; a brother, Robert (Dena) Schafstall of Columbus; a sister, Erma (Mike) Loesch of Columbus; brother-in-law, Wayne (Anna) Rust of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Chasteen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patty Rust.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
