Late rally lifts Columbus Christian to baseball win

Columbus Christian scored four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to overcome a 5-0 deficit and post a 10-6 baseball win against Traders Point Christian.

Traders Point scored four times in the sixth to tie it, but then darkness forced the game to be called, and the score reverted back to the previous inning.

Connor Graham went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Crusaders (3-5). C.J. Reed picked up the pitching victory.

Panthers edge Red Devils

NORTH VERNON — Matt Kirchner had a home run and two RBIs Wednesday to lead Jennings County to a 3-2 win against Jeffersonville.

Cody Wilson knocked in other run for the Panthers (7-9). Garrett Marsh pitched six innings to pick up the win, and Jamin VanVolkenburgh threw a scorless seventh to earn the save.

Spartans top Lancers

SHELBYVILLE — Edinburgh outhit Southwestern (Shelby) 6-5, but the Spartans pulled out a 6-3 Mid-Hoosier Conference win

Starting pitcher Kyle Armel went 2 for 2 for the Lancers (6-9, 3-6). Cody Henderson went 2 for 4.

Lancers rout Spartans

SHELBYVILLE — Bailey Woodall threw a two-hitter and went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Edinburgh to a 21-5, five-inning MHC win at Southwestern (Shelby).

Emma Wade and Breiana Burton each went 2 for 3, and Taylor Littiken went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Lancers (14-4, 7-2). Sidney Beier had a triple and three RBIs, Vanessa McManaway had a double and three RBIs and Paige Burton added three RBIs.

Eagles down Bluejackets

NASHVILLE — Parker VanNess fired a 1-over-par 37 Wednesday to win medalist honors and lead Brown County to a 182-215 win against Mitchell at Salt Creek.

Tyler Poling and Brendon Asher each shot 48 for the Eagles. Peyton Proctor carded a 49, Dawson Dunnuck added a 50 and Rex Waters had a 69.

Panthers sweep Cubs

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County swept Madison on Tuesday, winning both the boys and girls meets by 98-34 scores.

Alexis Harsh led the Panther girls with wins in the long jump (16 feet, 5 1/2 inches), 100 meters (12.5 seconds) and 200 (26.2). Emma McPeek took the high jump (4-10) and 800 (2:44), Kayla Truesdell captured the shot put (40-1) and discus (112-4) and Ashley Heindel won the 1,600 (5:58) and 3,200 (13:26). Izzy Daugherty took the 400 (1:05.1), and Jennings captured the 4×800 (11:00.6) and 4×100 (53.2) relays.

For the boys, Isaiah Ertel won the 110 hurdles (17.4) and 300 hurdles (43.2), and Chase Ketcham took the 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.1). Other winners were Dylan Carney in the pole vault (10-0), Doug Gerringer in the shot (43-7), Blaich Blanton in the discus (118-6), Franklin Sanders in the 1,600 (4:44.7), Alex Hendrix in the 800 (2:05.2) and Carter Leak in the 3,200 (10:13.0). The Panthers also swept the 4×800 (8:19.9), 4×100 (46.2) and 4×400 (3:42.3) relays.

Cougars boys 2nd

GREENSBURG — South Decatur’s boys finished second, and the girls took third in Tuesday’s Decatur County meet.

Greensburg won the boys meet with 80 points to 52 for the Cougars and 24 for North Decatur. Greensburg’s girls scored 89 points to 51 for North Decatur and 15 for South Decatur.

Nick Benge won the high jump (5-10) and 200 (23.3), and Dylan Cowins took the long jump (19-8 1/2) and 400 (54.7) to lead the Cougar boys. Trent Nobbe won the 110 hurdles (15.9), Brandon Malott took the 300 hurdles (42.2) and South Decatur captured the 4×100 relay (46.3).

The girls were led by third-place finishes from Marta Reputin in the 100 (13.4), Taylor Best in the 300 hurdles (59.3) and Stacy Fox in the 200 (28.8).
