WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Police in suburban Denver say officers shot and killed a man who barricaded himself in a home and refused to come out.

Westminster police spokeswoman Kate Kazell says the man was wanted for arrest for multiple offenses and ran into the home Tuesday evening when officers tried to contact him about a stolen vehicle.

She says everyone else in the home ran out but the man refused commands to leave. Police say SWAT officers used multiple tactics over the course of several hours to try to get the man to leave before entering the home.

A shootout broke out and police say officers shot and killed the suspect.

A police officer was wounded but is expected to recover.
