Firm hired to audit school district health claims

A South Bend company has been hired by the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. to perform an audit on health and pharmacy claims that have been filed by district employees.

The audit from BMI Audit Services, which will cost $33,900, is the first one that has been done for BCSC, said Vaughn Sylva, assistant superintendent for financial services.

It is meant to ensure that claims are reviewed and being paid out correctly, said Jim Roberts, BCSC superintendent. The work by BMI Audit Services is expected to take about four months to complete.

The district conducts other audits periodically. State Board of Accounts audits are done every two years and spousal/dependent audits in the district’s health trust are done about every four years, Sylva said.
