ITHACA, N.Y. — Authorities say they’ve arrested 31 people who were involved in a drug trafficking ring that brought large amounts of heroin from New York City to the Finger Lakes region.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the operation distributed “massive quantities” downstate and in Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins counties. He says this week’s arrests are the result of a five-month investigation led by his office and state police.

Officials say one of the ringleaders was a dealer who conducted his business out of his home in the Bronx and two others he maintained in Ithaca. Authorities say another key figure was a woman whose mother and two sisters were also involved in the heroin trafficking.

Officials say most of the suspects are upstate residents, including more than a dozen from the Ithaca area.
