OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has named Oklahoma County Special Judge Richard Ogden to a vacant district judge’s seat.

Fallin announced the appointment Thursday and says it is effective immediately. He replaces former District Judge Barbara Swinton, who resigned last year after she was appointed to the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals.

Swinton filled a vacancy created by the Sept. 2 retirement of former appeals court Judge Bill Hetherington. Swinton had served as a district court judge since 2002 and as an Oklahoma County special judge for six years before that.

Ogden, of Oklahoma City, has served the past two years as an Oklahoma County special judge. Before that he was an attorney in private practice for 25 years.

Ogden earned his juris doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
