CHANDLER, Ariz. — A man who allegedly set his Chandler motel room on fire before barricading himself inside a building has been taken to a hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chandler police say the condition of the man isn’t immediately known Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to a Super 8 motel about 11:30 a.m. and they saw a man flee the area and enter a nearby business.

Police believed the suspect was armed and officers set up a perimeter at the location where the man was last seen.

Police say everyone in the building got out safely and were accounted for.

Investigators then worked on identifying the suspect and talking him out of the building.

After several hours, police officers entered the building and found the man unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
