WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Two Friday morning car fires are linked to five other suspicious vehicle fires east of San Francisco in the last week.

KNTV reports (http://bit.ly/2pFxfcS ) that Contra Costa County Fire Marshal Robert Marshall says the latest fires — one in Walnut Creek and another in Lafayette — were reported shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

The two locations are less than three miles apart.

Additionally, Marshall says this week’s fires are linked to at least five other car fires reported earlier in the year in East Bay locations.

Authorities say there is a common thread among all the fires. Marshall declined to divulge that detail, saying he didn’t want to taint the ongoing investigation.

No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
