Letter: More intensive, affordable addiction care needed

Mr. Mark Duwe recently wrote a truthful and compassionate letter to the editor, titled “Addiction is not a crime but a disease.” Hopefully, the letter and the recent guest columns by Dr. Saddoris have changed the minds of some residents in our community.

Many people hide their head in the sand and think the addiction problem can’t happen in their family or within their circle of friends. Yes, it can. They need to take a good look around and offer a helping hand or offer their support to someone who is struggling with their addiction. Only then will they discover how debilitating this disease can be to the addict and to their family.

We need more in-care, intensive rehab facilities, and aftercare that is affordable to everyone. This is the only solution that will diminish this epidemic.
