SALEM, Mass. — An ex-convict charged with beating a woman so violently that she lost an eye has been sentenced to up to 13 years in prison.

The Salem News (http://bit.ly/2psGCkP ) reports that 40-year-old Peter Turco was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to several assault and other charges in the attack last July.

Turco had recently been released from jail when he turned up at Sarah Turner’s Salem apartment asking for a glass of water. Turco had served time with Turner’s ex-boyfriend.

Turco attacked Turner once inside, slammed her head multiple times and stabbed her in the eye. Turner suffered from a broken jaw, lost all her teeth and had to have her eye removed.

Turner asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence.

Turco’s lawyer said his client was sorry.
