FAIRVIEW, Ore. — Police detectives have determined that a man found dead east of Portland died by suicide.

The man’s body was found Thursday morning near railroad tracks in the city of Fairview. Investigators initially thought the man had been stabbed to death in a homicide.

Fairview police Chief Harry Smith said Friday that a further examination found the man died from a self-inflicted injury. The man’s name hasn’t been released.
