Hayden museum hosting bicentennial presentation

Staff Report

The Hayden Historical Museum will use the last regular meeting of the school year of the Little Hoosier Historians for a special presentation that ties in with Jennings County’s bicentennial.

The 6 p.m. Monday meeting at the Hayden pavilion will feature the Scattertack Band, which was started by Clara Sullivan and her family in 1984. Longtime band members include Patrick Sullivan, Eric Jarboe, Al Hochstetter, Trina Tracy, Penny Sullivan and Susie Barlow.

The Sullivan family came to Jennings County more than 200 years ago and first settled along the banks of the Muscatatuck River. Patrick Sullivan will tell about the history of the instruments and describe the stories behind some of the old songs the group will perform.

The meeting also will include a brief review of the projects and programs the Hayden Little Hoosiers conducted during the school year. Recognition will be given to the outstanding members from the chapter. Recognition also will be given to the museum board members, Colby Vogel, Scott Tuttle, Jeff Wheeler, Melanie Geyman, Lester Tracy, Bill Kendrick, Patrick Sullivan and Rodger Ruddick.

Refreshments will be served following the program, and the museum buildings will be open for visitors to browse. The museum is located at 6715 W. County Road 20S.
