TAYLORS, S.C. — Sheriff’s deputies in South Carolina are investigating the shooting death of a teen at a park.

Seventeen-year-old Makiya Hawkins was shot early Sunday at a Greenville County park.

The coroner’s office told local media outlets that she died Sunday afternoon at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Residents near the Pavilion Recreation Complex said they heard three shots around midnight Saturday.

Sgt. Ryan Flood said there was a large crowd at the park when officers arrived around 12:15 a.m.

Flood says deputies have no suspect in the shooting yet.

Hawkins was to graduate from Wade Hampton High School in about three weeks. Extra counselors were at the school Monday to help students.

The Pavilion Recreation Complex is a county-operated facility that includes an ice arena, inline rink and a bounce house.
