2 arrested for drugs: Marijuana, heroin found in car after traffic stop

Two people were arrested on multiple drug-related charges, including possession of heroin after a traffic stop.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputy Leah Burton was driving south on U.S. 31 near County Road 650N at 11:50 p.m. Sunday when she saw a vehicle with an expired license tag swerving in the left lane.

When the vehicle reached County Road 400N, it turned left and Burton stopped it, deputies said. The driver, Chawn T. Coomer, 31, of 3349 McCullough Lane, told Burton that heroin was in the vehicle.

A gray, powdery substance was located in the vehicle along with several syringes and a small amount of marijuana, deputies said.

Coomer was arrested on charges of false informing, possession of heroin, possession of legend drug-injection devices, possession of paraphernalia and four warrants, deputies said. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $122,500 bond, jail officials said.

Coomer’s passenger, Mara Ann Gastineau, 39, of 4685 Northeastern Blvd., was arrested on charges of possession of heroin, legend drug deception and possession of marijuana. She is being held in jail without bond, jail officials said.
