PHOENIX — Phoenix police say an officer shot and killed an armed homicide suspect when he felt threatened during negotiations to get the suspect to surrender.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says the shooting occurred Monday evening in a downtown public garden area where the female suspect was spotted several hours after a man was found shot dead in a midtown apartment a few miles away.

According to police, a person in the park called police after noticing the woman was armed.

Identities of the suspect and the homicide victim weren’t released but Lewis says the suspect and the victim knew each other. She was described as a woman in her 20s. He was described as a middle-aged man,

No officers were injured.
