FORT ATKINSON, Iowa — Authorities say a series of storms has battered several communities in northeast Iowa.

Winneshiek County emergency management coordinator Sean Snyder estimated that 70 to 80 percent of the buildings in Fort Atkinson lost roofs, siding or windows to the wind and hail brought by Monday’s storms. No injuries have been reported.

A National Weather Service survey team was checking Tuesday on whether a tornado had occurred.

Trees and power lines were knocked down in Guttenberg and signs were toppled in Clayton. At least two barns were damaged near Garber. Authorities say half dollar-size hail pounded Monona, where wind gusts of 65 mph were reported.
