KENNER, La. — A teenager has been arrested after authorities say he shot his friend in the abdomen.

The Times-Picayune reports ( ) Kenner police spokesman Lt. Brian McGregor says 18-year-old Mario Iboy De la Cruz has been arrested Sunday and charged with illegal use of weapons and negligent injuring of a 17-year-old boy.

McGregor says De la Cruz brandished a gun in a restaurant parking lot. He pointed the weapon at the teen and pulled the trigger.

The teen drove his friend to the hospital. He suffered damage to a kidney, liver and diaphragm. His condition had been stabilized Monday.

De la Cruz admitted to the shooting once detectives pressed for more details after finding a magazine clip in his vehicle.

It’s unclear if De la Cruz has a lawyer.
