WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. — Officials are investigating after a body was found at a South Carolina coastal island.

Local media outlets reported that crews were called to a boat landing on Wadmalaw Island near Charleston late Tuesday morning.

The St. Johns Fire Department, Charleston County Fire and Rescue, the Charleston County sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources responded to Bohicket Creek.

There was no immediate word on whether the victim was male or female. There was also no immediate indication how the body ended up in the water.
