Four area high schools won honors — two of them first place — in the 2017 Indiana Academic Super Bowl competition May 6 at Purdue University in West Lafayette.
The high school competition included five subject rounds of English, science, social studies, mathematics and fine arts. A sixth interdisciplinary round contained questions from any subject matter. Local high schools competed in Class 1 for the largest levels of enrollment and Class 4 for the smallest schools.

Columbus North, Class 1: Math, first place; and science, third place.
Columbus East, Class 1: Math, third place; interdisciplinary, third place.
Jennings County High School, Class 1: Social studies, state finalist.
Trinity Lutheran, Class 4: English, first place; fine arts, second place; math, second place; social studies, third place; and interdisciplinary, state finalist. The English team’s coach, Michelle Bauman, is the mother of the team’s captain, sophomore Nathaniel Bauman. Both reside in Columbus.
