Brian’s picks – May 18th

1) You can hit the bricks for free outdoor entertainment. The Bartholomew County Public Library’s Spotlight On the Plaza series returns at 6:30 p.m. Friday on the plaza, 536 Fifth St., Columbus, with one-man band Wayne Deaton of Seymour, and also Dresden, a high school group that plays laid-back indie rock. Members are Jadon Darnell, Corbin Parmer, Isaac Harper and Caleb Foster. Information: 812-379-1266; mybcpl.org.

2) Quilter and textile artist Daren Pitts Redman of Brown County is talented enough for some of her creations to be displayed worldwide, yet humble enough that her work hangs in Columbus Learning Center for no rental fee. You can appreciate her artistic gift for yourself by checking out her nine-piece display, “Seasons,” through June 20 at Gallery 506 in the Columbus Area Visitors Center, 536 Fifth St., downtown.
