The first recipients of the Katie McBurnett Memorial Scholarship were honored recently during the third annual Katie McBurnett 5K run.
The event is conducted to raise awareness about organ donation, and the scholarship is presented to recipients who have received an organ transplant.
Two Illinois students received $1,000 scholarships at the May 13 race from the Katie’s Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides Cough Buddy bears to hospitals in Indiana and Kentucky.
The 5K raised $1,700 for the foundation.
