North wins regional title

BEDFORD — Bailey Hester won the long jump and the 100 meters Saturday to lead Columbus North to the Bedford North Lawrence Regional title and a berth in the state finals.

The Bull Dogs racked up 109 points. Avon (100), Terre Haute South (97), Perry Meridian (93) and Center Grove (84) also qualified for Saturday’s state meet at Indiana University.

Hester jumped 18 feet, 11 inches in the long jump and ran 12.22 seconds in the 100. Nathan VanDeventer finished second in the 400 (55.63).

Matt Boldrey took third in the 100 (12.48) and fourth in the long jump (17-7); Ross Gill was third in the 400 (55.73) and Anthony Ashcroft, VanDeventer, Gill and Josh Holley finished third in the 4×100 relay (55.29). Noah Algee took fifth in the shot put (40-4).

Brandon Mitchell won his flight of the long jump (10-10 1/2), and Holley won his heat of the 400 (1:06.05). James Dwyer finished second in his flight of the long jump (9 1/2), and Devin Ashcroft was third in his flight of the shot (21-10 1/4).

BOYS GOLF

North, East in Providence invite

HENRYVILLE — Columbus North finished fifth in the Providence Invitational at Champions Pointe. Top-ranked Center Grove won with a 281 to 297 for Evansville Mater Dei, 299 for Bloomington South, 304 for Bedford North Lawrence and 306 for the Bull Dogs.

Matt Vorndran led North with a 73. Drew Smith carded a 75, Bryce Turner and Henry Kiel each shot 79 and Spencer Fairbanks had 82.

Columbus East tied for seventh with a 317. Thomas Ruch led the Olympians with a 78, Mark Mayhew and Nathan Cesarski each shot 79, Derek Alexander added an 81 and Adrian Adams had an 84.

BASEBALL

Edinburgh routs Morristown

MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh rolled to a 14-0 semifinal win against Morristown to advance to the finals of the Morristown Sectional.

Gabe Wilson went 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the Lancers (11-11-1). Parker Bryant went 3 for 4, Tavian Cosby went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Tristin Browning and Keegan Sida each added two RBIs.

Edinburgh will play Greenwood Christian Academy for the sectional title at 10 a.m. Monday.

Panthers fall to Stars

BEDFORD — Jennings County outhit Bedford North Lawrence 8-7, but six errors led to six unearned runs in a 7-1 loss in the semifinals of the Bedford Sectional.

Cody Wilson went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (9-12).
