DECATUR, Ill. — Authorities are investigating a shooting of a man by a Decatur Police officer as the man ran from a vehicle during a traffic stop.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review (http://bit.ly/2rIFTwv ) reports that the shooting happened Wednesday afternoon. Decatur Police Deputy Chief Jason Walker says when the officers pulled the vehicle over, two men jumped out and ran away. Walker says the officers saw that both men appeared to have handguns before one officer shot one of them in the back, wounding him. Officials say two handguns were recovered from the scene.

The names of the officer and wounded man haven’t been released. Police would not release the name of second man who was later captured.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting.
