A crowd of 250 is expected for Wednesday’s athlete of the year gala, when The Republic will announce its male and female athletes of the year and winner of the Josh Speidel Spirit Award.
The inaugural event at The Commons will recognize local high school athletes who have excelled on and off the field, bringing together the student-athletes, families, friends, coaches and the public in a countywide celebration.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Dinner, catered by Henry Social Club, starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program and awards presentation. Indiana University’s new football coach, Tom Allen, will give the keynote address.
Deadline to register for the awards banquet is 4:30 p.m. today.
Tickets, which cost $25 per person, can be purchased at The Republic, 2980 N. National Road, in Columbus.
