PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Massachusetts man faces up to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to traveling to Rhode Island to engage in sexual activity with a girl he believed to be 15.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Tuesday that David Bentz, of Norwell, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty last week in Providence to traveling interstate for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. He will be sentenced in September.

Federal authorities say Bentz spoke online with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl last year. They say Bentz arranged to meet with her in Rhode Island to engage in sexual activity.

The 46-year-old Bentz was arrested after he arrived at the pre-arranged location.
