Jenny’s Picks – June 8

1) I love a few things in this world; coming in at the top of the list are cats and crafts. I’m looking forward to the Columbus Bike Co-op’s craft class from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. Participants make crafts and jewelry from repurposed bicycle parts. The class is part of the library’s Summer Reading Challenge, which is themed “Build a Better World” this year. Information: 812-379-1266, mybcpl.org.

2) This event doesn’t happen until the end of the month, but you know how the summer goes: events heap on top of events and then your calendar is full. Make sure you get the Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration, 5 p.m. June 30 in Hope, on your calendar. The celebration, which takes place at the Hope Town Square, is free and features family-oriented activities, including games and contests, crafts for kids, a decorated bike/trike parade for kids up to age 12, cake walk, apple pie baking contest, fish fry and other food booths. The Banister Family Band will play at 7:30 p.m.; fireworks go off at dark. Information: 812-371-7969 or 812-546-8020.
