ELKRIDGE, Md. — Police have identified a man who died in Maryland after being struck by a commuter train that runs between Baltimore and Washington.

Police on Saturday identified him as Xin Zhuang, of Elkridge, Maryland. The 34-year-old died after being hit by a MARC train around 6:25 a.m. Friday in the Elkridge area.

Howard County police say investigators received a report Friday night that Zhuang was missing. Police believe he was walking near the tracks alone when the train came around a bend.

Police say that preliminarily investigators believe that the conductor would not have had time to prevent the train from hitting him. Police say detectives have been unable to confirm why Zhuang was in the area.

No one on the train was injured.
