Award recognizes rural preservation

Indiana Landmarks and the Indiana Farm Bureau are seeking nominations for the 2017 John Arnold Award for Rural Preservation. The program recognizes preservation and continued agricultural use of historic farm buildings.

Anyone, including farm owners, may submit a nomination. The award will be presented during the Indiana State Fair in August.

Nomination forms are available at bit.ly/ArnoldAward17 or by calling Indiana Landmarks at 812-232-4534 or emailing [email protected]. Deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. June 30.

The nomination must include a brief history of the farm and description of significant historic structures and features, a description of how the historic elements are used in day-to-day farming operations and high-resolution photos of the farm and its historic features.

The award is named in memory of John Arnold, a Rush County farmer who combined progressive agricultural practices with a deep respect for the natural and historic features of the rural landscape.
