BILLINGS, Mont. — A 28-year-old Billings man has pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in the death of his 7-month-old son last month.

The Billings Gazette reports ( ) Grant Edwin Johnson entered his plea Wednesday. He remained jailed with his bail set at $500,000.

Prosecutors say Johnson told several stories about how the child was injured on May 27, but eventually acknowledged he became frustrated because the baby was fussy and he threw him on the ground. Prosecutors say he failed to seek medical help for several hours.

Court records say an autopsy found injuries to the baby’s brain and spinal cord and broken ribs from a previous incident that had begun healing.
