Columbus City Council members voted 7-0 on first reading of an ordinance that would allow George Jr. Republic to build a home for boys north of Westenedge Park near Peppertree subdivision.

Columbus’ first “Centrex” telephone system went into service at Cummins Engine Co., allowing calls to be dialed directly to and from the firm’s 1,100 telephones without going through the company’s switchboard.
