Multi-vehicle accident in Shelby County results in a fatality

SHELBY COUNTY — Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a multi-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a Shelbyville woman at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators were sent to West State Road 44 and Marietta Road to the accident, deputies said. A white Chevy truck driven by Richard Barnett Jr., 51, Franklin, was traveling east and went left of center, striking a dump truck driven by Timothy Reed, 47, Hope, said Maj. Louie Koch, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

Barnett’s vehicle then sideswiped a silver Dodge van drivin by Kathy Borowitz, 53, Shelbyville and then collided head on with a blue Chevy van driven by Haley Wells, 29, Shelbyville, which was also occupied by Jeremy Wells, 34, Shelbyville.

Haley Wells died at the scene, Koch said, and was pronounced dead by the Shelby County coroner.

All the other drivers were taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
